Navigation Training
2 Day Navigation Weekend
By far our most popular trip, this 2 day hike is your gateway to future MountainSphere trips and is your pathway to independence and self reliance in the bush. On this
bushwalk you will learn how to read a topographic map and how to use a compass, and you will put these techniques into practise in a real off-track wilderness
environment. Whilst the primary objective of the weekend is educational, it is
also a great opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and experience a
wild and undeveloped environment, a beautiful sandstone landscape, and to enjoy an evening and night of camping away from it all.
3 Day Navigation Weekend
Have you previously attended a MountainSphere 2-day navigation training weekend Do you want
more practise and to take your skills to the next level on a 3 day hike? Do you want to consolidate what you have already learned and become a trip leader competent in wilderness navigation?
Offered only to clients who have completed the 2 day navigation weekend, this trip is an opportunity to practise and enhance your
skills on a 3 day wilderness hike in varied and navigationally challenging
terrain.
Other Expeditions
Katoomba to Kanangra

On this hike you will practise your navigation skills on a scenic guided hike in a lesser known part of the Greater Blue Mountains.
Feast on spectacular scenery on this expertly guided hike in complex terrain where local knowledge is essential.
Pantoneys Crown
The 3-4 day Pantoneys Crown and Point Cameron circuit is by far the most challenging – and most rewarding – of all the guided hikes in MountainSphere Adventures’ regular programme.

EXCELLENT Based on 31 reviews Posted on Lauren Armstrong05/06/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had an amazing time on the 2-day weekend navigation course with Ashley and our hiking group in early May. Ashley is a great teacher and catered to all our needs and went well above and beyond. It was an added bonus to be hiking in the most beautiful location in addition to learning new skills. The skills I learnt from the weekend have made me feel much more confident about getting back out in the bush by myself or with friends. I can't recommend the trip enough :-)Posted on Cass Balding30/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently completed the two-day Wilderness Navigation Course with MountainSphere and highly recommend it. The course was well-organised, with a great balance of theory and hands-on learning in a beautiful bush setting. Ashley was knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely focused on helping us build confidence. By the end of the weekend, I felt much more capable navigating off-track. A fantastic experience for anyone looking to learn or refresh their navigation skills.Posted on Danielle Sutherland23/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I highly recommend doing this trip with Ashley. Having been out of hiking for many years I wanted to make sure I was doing it safely and know how to find my way without ‘leaving bread crumbs!’. I still need more practice…but I’m feeling much more confident and looking forward to doing more of Ashley's courses. He is incredibly knowledgeable and has a beautiful calm way if imparting his knowledge. I will definitely be doing more courses with Ashley.Posted on Han Long05/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A magic trip. Calm, professional, and as an Educator myself, I really respect Ashley’s education design for this course. Plenty of opportunities for preparation beforehand, plenty of preparation and orientation before the start of the walk. Active tuition and individual attention during lesson stops along the way, and plenty of reinforcement of method as well as concepts as we progressed actoss the beautiful landscape. Downside is yall will never have as cool and lovely a group as came along this time. Poor yalls 😉.Posted on Shonty Fisher05/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was one of the best experiences of my life. Ash is a patient, kind and sagacious teacher who made our group feel safe and supported in trying our new navigation skills in a beautiful wilderness setting. He is full of great adventure stories so you will never be bored - ask lots of questions! My friends and I are already planning our next expedition with Ash closer to our home on the south coast, which Ash is more than willing to accomodate. Anyone who is eager to become more confident in the bush - Ash is the best mentor you could ask for.Posted on Lynda Byrn05/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had the best weekend of my life learning how to navigate the stunning Wollangambe region. Ashley was the most experienced of guides who had a calm approach in teaching us how to be safe and confident in the bush. I cannot recommend this trip more. 100 stars. If you are a total novice or looking to refresh your navigation skills, you will get a lot out of the 2-day nav course with Ashley. It is fantastic opportunity to get out into the beautiful Blue Mountains, camp under the stars and learn through practical application. After completing the course I feel confident using a map and compass and endeavour to get off the track onto unmarked trails.Posted on Georgia Rankin10/04/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great weekend! Learnt a lot about translating what I see on the map to what I see in real life with the compass as my translator. We had an awesome group and Ashley was a fantastic leader / teacher for our adventure.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
